Rangers Tell Coaches to Look Around

The Texas Rangers' front office alerted their coaches on Tuesday that they could seek other jobs, effective immediately, which is kind of a crazy thing to think about with established, high-profile coaches like hitting coach Dave Magadan and pitching coach Mike Maddux on the staff.

You'd think this could mean one of two things, even though Magadan is reportedly looking around and Maddux reportedly has no interest in leaving and has been working with Rangers pitchers in Arizona.

Does it mean the Rangers are not going to hire interim manager Tim Bogar? It could. If someone fresh is brought in — either Jeff Banister or Kevin Cash — it would make sense to let the new guy bring in an entirely new staff of his choosing. The Rangers could be making this known proactively so those guys aren't left hanging when the new manager is named.

Does it mean Bogar is sticking around and changes are coming anyway? Definitely. Bogar is, after all, the odds-on favorite to land the full-time job after serving as Ron Washington's bench coach and then as interim manager after Washington abruptly resigned on Sept. 5.

Either way, it's going to be interesting to see what happens with those guys, specifically Maddux and Magadan.
