Earlier this week when the Rangers had to decide who to tender offers to and who to send to free agency, there was really only one surprise when the club decided to let Alexi Ogando become a free agent.
They did the same with veteran utility infielder Adam Rosales, which wasn't much of a surprise. But Rosales has been on the MLB scrap heap before and not gone anywhere, and you can bet the Rangers are secretly hoping that happens again so they can snatch him back up on a minor-league deal.
Rosales is no superstar, but he plays a valuable role on a 25-man roster as a fifth infielder, who can play all four infield positions and has even seen time in the outfield. His 2014 season was his best as a pro, as he was pressed into some significant playing time with the Rangers thanks to their rash of injuries.
All Rosales did was bat .262, nearly 40 points above his career average, with a .328 on-base percentage. He also hit four home runs and drove in 19 runs in 164 at-bats — his most since 2010 with Oakland.
Fact of the matter is, if you don't want Rosales to be a part of the Rangers' picture in 2015, it's hard to argue on his behalf, but at the same time, you can do a whole lot worse when you're discussing a utility infielder who brings a veteran presence.
