Rangers Prospects Earn Weekly Honors in Frisco

81st Texas League All-Star Game is Tuesday, June 27 in Frisco

Three Rangers prospects at Double-A Frisco wrapped up a good week by taking home some new hardware.

Roughriders pitchers Yohander Mendez and Collin Wiles were named Texas League Pitchers of the Week. Infielder/outfielder Royce Bolinger was also named Player of the Week.

Both Mendez and Wiles threw complete game shutouts in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Arkansas. Mendez allowed three hits and struck out five in his start while Wiles allowed just two hits in his shutout win. The dynamic duo combined for the Roughriders’ first consecutive shutout wins since 2015.

Mendez, the Rangers No. 2 ranked prospect, is 3-3 with a 3.52 ERA in 69 innings this season in Frisco. The lefty has 53 strikeouts and a 1.06 WHIP in 11 starts. Meanwhile, Wiles improved to 5-2 with a 3.15 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 12 games total, 11 were starts.

Bolinger hit .412 with a double, three home runs and five RBI’s in five games last week. All three of his home runs came on Saturday in that doubleheader sweep. Bolinger is hitting .292 with a .849 OPS in 30 games for the Roughriders this season.

Mendez and Bolinger earn their second career weekly honor and their first from the Texas League.

Frisco begins an eight-game road trip on Tuesday in Corpus Christi. This year’s Texas League All-Star Game will be held at Dr. Pepper Ballpark on June 27. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. for Fan Fest followed by the Celebrity Softball Game at 5:15 p.m.
