Rangers Pick Up Jeff Banister's 2018 Option, Add 2019 Option

Texas Rangers officials said the team exercised their 2018 option on manager Jeff Banister Friday morning.

Team spokesman John Blake tweeted that they also added a team option for the 2019 season to Banister's contract.

The Rangers went 88-74 and won the American League West in 2015 in Banister's first season with the team. He also became the first American League manager with no previous managerial experience to win Manager of the Year award.

"Jeff set the tone from day one in spring training in 2015 and carried that message throughout the season," Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels said. "Through the team’s early season struggles, he was able to keep everyone focused and that led to a memorable finish."

Banister was hired by the Rangers in October of 2014 to replace longtime manager Ron Washington.
