Rangers Need Good Lewis Wednesday

The Texas Rangers face a red-hot David Price on Wednesday night at home and on the flip side also face the best lineup in baseball after blowing a late lead on Tuesday.

To combat both of those things, the Rangers will turn to their rock in veteran righty Colby Lewis, who stands at 14-5 this season with a 4.29 ERA. There's something kind of funny about that ERA number, though. If you throw out three of Lewis' starts this season in which he allowed seven, nine and 10 runs, his ERA falls to just a hair above 3.00.

On Wednesday, Lewis needs to avoid one of those games against the best offense in baseball. On average, he's had a stinker about once every seven outings this year. His last one came just four starts ago, so the Rangers hope he can be his usual good, solid self on Wednesday to force a rubber game on Thursday afternoon.

If the Rangers lose tonight, chances are they'll once again be out of the Wild Card picture if the season were to end, so Lewis needs his "A game" against the Jays.
