Prospect Gonzalez Could Get Crack at Rotation

Outside of Yu Darvish and Derek Holland, nothing about the Texas Rangers' plans for the starting rotation in 2015 is set.

Young up-and-comer Martin Perez won't be back until midseason after Tommy John surgery and most likely won't be at full strength again until 2016, and while the Rangers seem confident Colby Lewis will re-sign with the Rangers and fill out a spot in the back part of the rotation, that isn't official yet.

One spot could be held by a guy who has yet to pitch in the big leagues, as Rangers GM Jon Daniels said on Tuesday from the GM meetings that he is possibly going to give Alex "Chi-Chi" Gonzalez a non-roster invite to big-league spring training after a great season in the Rangers' system in 2014.

The team's No. 1 draft pick in 2013 ascended all the way to Double-A Frisco this past season while compiling a 12-6 record with a 2.66 ERA between High-A Myrtle Beach and Frisco.
