Remember when Jurickson Profar was the beneficiary of the Ian Kinsler trade, seen as a way to clear the way for the top prospect in all of baseball.
Then, in spring training, Profar suffered a shoulder injury, hasn't played all season and was shut down for the season. In the meantime, 20-year-old second baseman Rougned Odor has basically been the Rangers' starting second baseman for much of the season and handled it pretty well, considering.
Profar was at Globe Life Park on Wednesday prior to the Rangers' 10-1 loss taking infield at second base. He isn't yet ready to throw, but he was out there fielding grounders and working on his footwork and could underhand toss the ball to start double plays.
“Just simulate double plays,” Washington told reporters of Profar’s work Wednesday. “It gets some stuff working a little bit, gets his legs in some type of shape, and [he'll] start a throwing program [eventually].”
The Rangers said they plan to play Profar in the Arizona Fall League, but that he won't play winter ball in the Caribbean.
