Target: Matt Garza, RHP
Type of move: Trade
2012 stats: 5-7, 3.91 ERA, 96 Ks, 32 walks in 103 2/3 innings
Garza was shut down just before the July 31 trade deadline in 2012 and before that, he was one of the most coveted names on the trade market. The Rangers were one of the teams reportedly interested in Garza back then, but they obviously opted for his Chicago Cubs, much cheaper, teammate Ryan Dempster.
Garza has one year left on his deal and would be free after the upcoming season, so the fit probably isn't ideal for the Rangers, who won't part with Mike Olt for one year of Garza. If the Rangers could swing a deal that didn't involve Olt, it might be worth looking into, but the Cubs would probably require Olt be included.
