Potential Targets: Jerome Williams

Target: Jerome Williams, RHP

2013 stats: 9-10, 4.57 ERA, 25 starts, 169 1/3 innings with Los Angeles Angels

Williams is certainly no headline name, but he's been serviceable in the past with the Texas Rangers hated rival, and now he could be a cheap, nice fill-in for the Rangers after losing starter Derek Holland for probably half of the 2014 season after knee surgery last week. Williams also has a lot of experience coming out of the bullpen as a long man, and could transition to that point when Holland returns. And if nothing else, the Rangers could even float him back and forth between fifth starter and long man with someone else.

Fact is, the Rangers needed another starter before Holland got injured, and now they need two, even though they do have several internal options, including two stud relievers in Tanner Scheppers and Robbie Ross. Williams could be had for cheap and could be worth looking into. The Dallas Morning News reported the Rangers were looking at Williams before Holland's injury, most likely to compete for that No. 5 starter job or end up in the bullpen. Now, they might be turning up their interest a notch or two.
