Potential Targets: Carlos Ruiz

Target: Carlos Ruiz, C

2013 stats: .268 batting average, .320 on-base percentage, 16 doubles, five home runs, 37 RBIs

Ruiz toiled through an injury-filled 2013 in Philadelphia, playing in only 92 games. But when he was playing, he was unimpressive at the plate with a slugging percentage that looked more like an on-base percentage (.368). But, and it's a big but, but in the three seasons prior to last year, Ruiz was an all-star caliber catcher, both behind the plate and at it.

In 2012, he hit .325 with a .935 OPS, 16 homers and 68 RBIs in 114 games. In 2011, he hit .283 and in 2010, he hit .302.

Ruiz is free this winter and will be looking for at least a two-year deal, most likely more, at age 34. He isn't the Rangers' top target at the position, but you can bet he's on their fairly short list.
