In an ongoing series, we'll take a look at possible free-agent and trade targets for the Texas Rangers this winter.
Potential Target:Drew Stubbs, OF
2015 stats: .195 batting average, .283 on-base percentage, .665 OPS, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 10 RBIs, 5 stolen bases in 78 games split between Colorado and Texas
We're scraping the bottom of the barrel here in regards to finding some outfield depth to help with what is sure to be a problem in left field with Josh Hamilton's knee and the relative lack of anything behind him when a right-handed pitcher is on the mound.
But the Rangers have some familiarity with Stubbs, a former star at the University of Texas, after he joined the club midway through the year last year and played in 27 games. He didn't do much at the plate with just two hits and three walks, but he did go 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts and can do some damage in that department, even as a pinch-running option.
While he didn't produce much at the plate, Stubbs was a boss of a defensive replacement in late-game situations and crafted one of the best moments of the year when he scaled up the wall in right-center field to rob the Tigers a key game with a game-ending catch in the final week of the season.
