Odor Suspension Could Mean Profar Time

Rougned Odor is going to be suspended, and most likely, a ruling will come down sometime on Tuesday afternoon. After that, there will be an appeal, but everyone, including Odor, is fully expecting him to miss some time, whether that's three games or 10 games, or somewhere in between.

While Odor is gone, the Rangers could go with Hanser Alberto at second base, or they could dig a little deeper, like down to Triple-A Round Rock.

That's where Jurickson Profar is, you know, that Jurickson Profar who was once the consensus top prospect in all of baseball just a few short years ago.

Profar homered on Monday night and is having a great year at Triple-A after missing the past two seasons with a lingering shoulder issue that was finally surgically repaired.

Here's the trick of the matter: Odor's suspension won't free up a roster spot, as teams must play short-handed while a player is suspended. But, the Rangers could opt to send down a relief pitcher to bring Profar up while Odor is out and give him his first taste of the bigs since 2014.

Profar recently said he doesn't expect to be with the Rangers long term as he expects to be traded this summer, and he very well could be right. A quick audition in the big leagues, if successful, could help accelerate that process.
