Nathan Makes Good on Cowboys-Giants Bet

Closer still far from a Cowboys fan

No one can say Texas Rangers closer Joe Nathan isn't a good sport.

The devout New York Giants fan made good on a bet with teammate Mike Adams Tuesday, running out onto the field for pregame warm ups at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington wearing not only a Tony Romo jersey, but the entire uniform -- pads, helmet, cleats and all.

Nathan tossed a few passes to teammates before signing autographs for fans -- the latter part being part of the bet.

"I want to thank my New York Football Giants for allowing me this experience," Nathan said while signing autographs. "You know what, my Giants have given me a lot of pleasure the last few years, so I'll let this one slide."

The game was the first home game since the Cowboys beat the Giants in the NFL opener last week.

Adams said the rivalry between the two started at Spring Training when the pair first met.  Adams said Nathan made a comment about the "crappy" Cowboys helmet in Adams' locker and the rivalry grew from there.

"I'll tell you what, it made my day. I'd have been pretty upset if I lost the bet. He was a good sport about it, did a great job with it and I'm just happy he lived up to the bet," Adams said.

Nathan said he and Adams may attend the next meeting between the Giants and Cowboys, scheduled for Oct. 28 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, and that another bet may be part of the evening.

They can bet all they like, but let's hope they are otherwise occupied and unable to attend. After all, Game 4 of the World Series will be played that day in the ALCS champion's ballpark -- so here's to hoping they are at batting practice.
