Moreland Pulls Up Lame

Hamstrings and the Texas Rangers have never really gotten along, whether it's Adrian Beltre and his problems, Nelson Cruz and his recurring leg problems or now Mitch Moreland, who had a stint on the disabled list last season with a hamstring injury.

After a hit down the right-field line on Wednesday night in Boston that normally results in a triple at Fenway Park, even for the slowest runners, Moreland pulled up gimpy on his way to second base and settled for a stand-up double.

Moreland then exited the game for pinch-runner Jeff Baker and said after the game he was heading back to DFW for an MRI, meaning he's likely out until at least Monday when the Rangers return home to face Cleveland. That decision lets you know the injury is fairly serious, and probably moreso than Adrian Beltre's hamstring strain that caused him to miss two games before returning Wednesday and homering.

With a series in Toronto coming up when Beltre won't be playing in the field due to the horrible, antiquated artificial turf in the Rogers Centre, he'll be the team's designated hitter which might put Lance Berkman, and his old, creaky knees at first base.

Do the Rangers make a move to call up the recently newly sighted Mike Olt, who's now at Round Rock after a brief rehab in Frisco? It's too early for that to be a comfotable move, but things couldn't be a lot worse for the Rangers after two games of their 20 games in 20 days stretch.
