Martin Shows Arm Again

As bad as Matt Garza's start for the Texas Rangers was on Monday night, it could've been even worse if not for the stellar arm of his centerfielder.

In the bottom of the third inning with one out and a runner on second base, Ben Zobrist laced a single to center that sent Yunel Escobar around third base and toward home, but Leonys Martin came up firing and gunned Escobar down at the plate with a frozen rope of a throw for his 14th outfield assist this season.

The throw kept the Rays' lead at just 1-0 after Garza had already given up one run in the inning and appeared to be well on his way to possibly even an earlier exit than the one he made before getting out of the fifth inning.

For some reason, opposing third-base coaches continue to test Martin's arm, and the young Cuban import is showing he might have the best outfield arm in baseball, most definitely of any centerfielder and maybe regardless of position.
