If you'd ever been on the fence about trekking out to Frisco to watch a Rough Riders game, the decision oughta be a little easier to make now.
That's because the Rangers assigned Cuban defector Leonys Martin to Frisco, where he'll join starting pitcher Martin Perez, who is probably the Rangers' most coveted minor league prospect right now.
Martin is on a faster track to get to Arlington than Perez (to avoid confusion, Perez is obviously Martin Perez and Martin is Leonys Martin).
Martin, who's allegedly 22 years old, though we never really know with these Cuban defectors, hasn't played organized baseball since 2009 when he was playing in a Cuban league.
In a 90-game season, Martin hit .311 with a .491 on-base percentage and had 78 walks with 17 stolen bases. He's said to be a plus-plus defender with a better than average arm for a center fielder.
He was signed to a $15.5 million deal last week, and will surely bring some interested people to Dr Pepper Ballpark in the near future.
