MLB Network Ranks Beltre No. 1

Numbers and stat guru and sabermetric advocate Brian Kenny, one of the few non-former players who MLB Network uses as an on-air talent, along with former all-star third baseman Mike Lowell voted Texas Rnagers third baseman Adrian Beltre as the best third baseman in the majors right now.

The rankings are based on all around play — offense and defense — and took 2015 projections into account, and Beltre was able to edge out new Toronto (former A's) third baseman Josh Donaldson and Pittsburgh third baseman Josh Harrison.

Beltre had a down year a season ago while trying to carry the Rangers' offense as he watched his home runs dip to 19 after three straight 30-homer seasons in a Rangers uniform. He's about to be 36 years old, but we've been waiting for him to decline for a while and he hasn't started yet. It's easy to write off last year as him trying too hard. Oh, and there's that whole thing of him hitting .324 — good for his second-best average in his 17-year career. So yeah, he's not going anywhere any time soon.
