Colby Lewis was pretty solid over the second half of the 2014 season and ended up leading the Rangers in innings pitched and tying for the team lead in wins after a horrific start to the season as he worked his way back from an unprecedented hip resurfacing procedure.
Now, the Rangers are counting on him to turn things around after an awful attempt at a season opener on Monday night when they were nearly no-hit and lost 8-0 to AL West foe Oakland. Lewis, who will match up against a new-look A's lineup, will get a chance to pitch in one of his favorite ballparks in the league over the course of his career and against a team he's traditionally pitched well against.
Over the course of his career, Lewis has posted an ERA of 3.23 and an 8-4 record against the A's — home or away — which is the second-lowest ERA against any team he's faced more than twice, other than his sub-2.00 mark against the Astros.
And it gets even better when he's in Oakland in spacious O.co Coliseum with its ridiculous foul territory and spacious outfield. Lewis is 6-3 with a 3.05 ERA in his career in Oakland, which also includes 26 appearances (one start) as an A's pitcher in 2007.
The Rangers' season is far from doomed, as bad as Monday night was, and they can prove that with a nice bounce-back victory on Tuesday night with Lewis on the mound.C
