Injured Starters Holland, Feliz Begin Throwing Programs

Neftali Feliz and Derek Holland each had a throwing session prior to Wednesday's game

Some promising news on the health front for injured starters Neftali Feliz and Derek Holland: According to the Rangers’ official website, both Feliz and Holland went through a throwing session prior to Wednesday afternoon’s matchup with the Padres in San Diego.

Holland has been out since June 7 with shoulder fatigue, an injury that came as a result of a stomach virus that caused the lefty to lose a good deal of strength and between 10 and 15 pounds over the course of just under two weeks. On Wednesday, he threw a bullpen, his first since being placed on the disabled list. He threw long toss earlier in the week.

Team officials were particularly cautious about letting Holland regain some of the aforementioned lost weight before allowing him to return to a throwing program.

Meanwhile Neftali Feliz, who has been on the DL since May 21 with an inflamed elbow (and last pitched on May 18), returned to throwing Monday--and, after a day off, went through a light session (similar to the one Monday) on Wednesday. Feliz, who is 3-1 on the year, has been moved to the 60-day DL, meaning he won’t be eligible to return until July 18.
