Holaday Shows Worth Behind Plate

When the Rangers acquired Detroit backup catcher Bryan Holaday just before the season began to serve in the same role for them, it was done with one thing in mind.

On Wednesday, Holaday made his season debut behind the plate for the Rangers and showed exactly why the Rangers brought him in to supplant Chris Gimenez as the team's backup catcher behind Robinson Chirinos.

Holaday, known as a plus defender behind the plate with a good throwing arm, threw out to baserunners on Wednesday, which was an area where Gimenez struggled horribly in his time with the Rangers.

Holaday, a Dallas native who attended W.T. White High School and later TCU, was 0-for-4 at the plate, but that was of no importance as Holaday established early on that he wouldn't be run on and ended up throwing out both runners who attempted to steal second base on him, including former Ranger Leonys Martin, an accomplished base-stealer.
