Hamilton's Grand Slam Worth $500,000

Josh Hamilton helped lift the Rangers to another win on Wednesday night with his third career grand slam home run -- but he also gave a lot of people some free carpet and countertops.

You see, CC Carpet & Floor Design, one of Hamilton's endorsements, was offering a promotion for anyone that bought flooring or countertops between Aug. 29 and Sept. 28. If Hamilton hit a grand slam between those days, they'd get a refund of their purchase price.  Obviously once Hamilton hit a grand slam, no one else could get in line for free carpet.

Well, Wednesday night Hamilton cleared the bases and the owner of CC Carpet, Steve Fitzgerald, is cashing-in a $500,000 insurance policy bought against the promotion to start cutting checks.

After the grand slam, traffic to the company's website was so strong that it overloaded the server.  The site was still down at noon Thursday.

"We wanted to do something that would be fun, but still possible," Fitzgerald told ESPN Dallas. "There were people trying to get me to do something else, but I thought it had to be Hamilton and a grand slam. My daughter, Morgan, pushed for Hamilton too. It took some phone calls, but we were thrilled to make it work."

Fitzgerald told the Star-Telegram that he wished Hamilton had waited a little longer so that more people could have won free carpet.

Fitzgerald hasn't said they'll do the promotion again in the future.
