Hamilton Has Solid Rehab Debut

In his last four games for the Texas Rangers, Josh Hamilton hit .455 with two doubles, two homers and five RBIs, and in his last at-bat ended a game with a walkoff double back on May 31.

Hamilton hasn't played for the Rangers since, and on Wednesday he began what is expected to be a brief rehab assignment through the weekend in Double-A Frisco. Hamilton shined in his first game action since that day back at the end of May, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.

Hamilton roped a double to the right field wall in his first at-bat of his first game back. He also worked from behind in the count to draw a walk, showing an ability to lay off outside junk. His bat speed is there, and it appears he might actually have something, after all, even if he never showed it to the Angels.

It could be that Hamilton is actually a savior for the Rangers — something no one really expected when the Rangers got him for pennies on the dollar at the end of April. Now, they just need to get him back in the lineup, which is expected to happen on Monday in Baltimore.
