On a night where Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels battled to keep his team in the game, the Texas offense went cold.  Hamels allowed a career-high 14 hits against the Tigers, but managed to hold Detroit to just two runs in the game.

“He got some help from his defense and was able to make pitches when he needed to to get out of some tough situations,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister said.  “He maneuvered his way around.  The rest of the game he managed well.  He made pitches and got the outs he needed to.  You don’t see that line any time.  Gritty performance by Cole, but we were unable to get him any run support tonight.”

The Rangers could only muster three hits and went scoreless against Detroit, which saw starting pitcher Matt Boyd go 7 innings and allow just two hits.

The Rangers and Tigers will play the final game of this three-game series Sunday at 2:05 p.m. in Globe Life Park.
