Hamels Gets By Without Great Stuff

Things didn't look too promising for Cole Hamels on Wednesday as far as trying to bounce back from his worst outing as a Ranger his last time out against Pittsburgh.

He allowed a walk and then a two-run homer to former Ranger and teammate Mike Napoli and had already given up the two runs in one inning of work after allowing six runs in 4 2/3 innings on Friday night against the Pirates.

But Hamels settled down and despite not having his best stuff or best control managed to get through seven innings while allowing three earned runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five while throwing 110 pitches after ending the sixth inning with over 100 pitches.

Hamels will next take the mound against a Houston team he baffled back on May 22 to the tune of 11 strikeouts and two walks over eight innings while allowing one earned run.
