Guzman, Demeritte To Play In Futures Game

A couple of Rangers prospects are about to get a chance to showcase their skills on a big stage.

Frisco first baseman Ronald Guzman and High Desert second baseman Travis Demeritte were selected to play in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in San Diego. Demeritte is on the U.S. Team, while Guzman was named to the World Team.

Demeritte is putting on a power display for the Rangers’ Class-A Advanced team. He’s been punishing California League pitching to the tune of 20 home runs and 42 RBI in 74 games this season. Demeritte took part in the California/Carolina League home run derby on board the USS Midway in San Diego last month.

Guzman is having a breakout season for Double-A Frisco. The 21-year old is hitting .290 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI in 75 games. He was named a starter on the Texas League All-Star team, where he went 1-for-4 in the game last week.

The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will take place on Sunday, July 10 in at Petco Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.
