Dave Magadan didn’t know if he wanted to remain a hitting coach. Turns out he just didn’t want to remain a hitting coach in Arlington.
Magadan, according to MLB.com, has accepted a job as the Diamondbacks’ hitting instructor in the wake of his leaving the Rangers via “mutual agreement.”
He initially told the Rangers he might go into scouting in order to spend more time with his family, but apparently put that idea on the back burner and will work full-time in Arizona.
I don’t think Magadan and Rangers’ manager Jeff Banister ever saw eye-to-eye on style or substance.
The Rangers scored the third-most runs in the AL, but Banister hinted after the season at getting back to an approach instilled by Magadan predecessor Clint Hurdle.
The Rangers replaced Magadan two weeks ago by hiring former Cubs’ minor league hitting coach Anthony Iapoce.
