Field Has Dream Rangers Debut

Thomas Field is nothing close to being a long-term answer at second base, and even if Rougned Odor stays in the minors for the remainder of the season, it's unlikely Field will be the guy for the rest of the year.

There's a reason the guy is 28 years old and has had slightly more than a cup of coffee in his big-league career.

But for one night, anyway, Field had a pretty smashing debut with the Rangers — a great night for a Texas native from Waco who attended Texas State for his collegiate career.

There were veiled references to "Field of Dreams" throughout the night, including by Rangers' emcee Chuck Morgan, who flashed Field's mug up on the big jumbotron in right field in front of a corn field reminiscent of the classic Kevin Costner flick.

Field's Rangers debut was what dreams are made of.

His first at-bat was a good one, ending with him drawing a walk off struggling Royals starter Danny Duffy and later scoring on a wild pitch. His next at-bat was a screaming lineout to third base, and his final one was a rocket deposited into the visitor bullpen for his first big-league home run.

The night ended with him taking a flip from Elvis Andrus to end the game in the ninth, and then Andrus giving him the Gatorade shower in the postgame interview.

Things for Field won't stay as awesome as they were on Monday, but it was a pretty fantastic start to his Rangers career.
