Fantasy Land: Ranking The Rangers

Shin-Soo Choo is the fifth most valuable Ranger in fantasy baseball.

The regular season is closing in, and fantasy baseball is right there with it. Let's take a look at the Rangers roster and rank the top five in the fantasy world.

No. 5: Shin-Soo Choo, OF

2013 stats: .285 batting average, .423 on-base percentage, .462 slugging percentage, 21 home runs, 54 RBIs, 107 runs, 20 stolen bases

Pros: Choo is set to be the leadoff man in what could be one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball, especiallly at the top. Choo is an on-base machine and will be setting the table for guys like Prince Fielder, Adrian Beltre and Alex Rios, who might just be the best 3-4-5 combination in the league.

Cons: Overhype. This one's hard to explain because we just pretty much did it ourselves, but after putting up an astronomical on-base percentage last year, folks are understandably licking their chops at the thought of Choo being on base for the aforementioned guys. However, it was a career-best OBP and only the second time he's been on base at better than 40 percent of the time — the first coming in 2010 when he had an OBP of .401. Now, he's never been bad at getting on base, but it'd be hard to imagine him putting up another season quite like last year's.

Verdict: If your league accounts for on-base percentage, Choo's value is through the roof. Most leagues account for runs, and Choo will do just fine in that category, as well.
