Darvish Set to Tangle With Kryptonite

Yu Darvish has seen two teams in the majors more than the Seattle Mariners over his career, and on Friday night he'll make his ninth career start against the division rival with first place in the AL West (at least temporarily) on the line.

Darvish hasn't had the best of luck against the Mariners — the team he made his MLB debut against in 2012 — in the past.

In his eight previous starts, Darvish is 3-3 with a 4.47 ERA. Only the Oakland A's have given Darvish more trouble in his career.

But, if there's a silver lining it is that the Mariners gave him their most trouble in 2012, and he got better against them in each subsequent season. In three 2013 starts, he had a 2.66 ERA.

Darvish, of course, made his return from Tommy John surgery on Saturday against a good Pirates lineup and was phenomenal, working five innings with seven strikeouts and just one run allowed on three hits. He was working on a strict pitch limit and was finished after 81 pitches.
