Darvish Set For Rehab Start Sunday In Frisco

If you missed Yu Darvish the first time around in Double-A Frisco, you’ll get another chance to see the Rangers ace in a Roughriders uniform on Sunday.

Darvish is back on another rehab assignment with Frisco. He’s been on the disabled list since June 9th with shoulder discomfort. Darvish did make a rehab start on Monday, allowing three runs while striking out five on 42 pitches against Northwest Arkansas.

So when will the Rangers get their ace back in the starting rotation? It all depends on how things go on Sunday and how Darvish feels on Monday. He’s slated to throw five innings or 75 pitches at Dr. Pepper Ballpark on Sunday. If Darvish passes the test, he’s expected to be activated for the first series after the All-Star break.

Getting the three-time All-Star back healthy is crucial for the Rangers, whose starters have struggled going into the break. Before going on the DL, Darvish was 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA in three starts. This was after missing all of last season and the beginning of this season while coming back from Tommy John surgery.

During his first stint with Frisco earlier this year, Darvish was 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA in 15 innings of work. This will be his fifth rehab start with the Roughriders.

So the road back to Arlington for the Rangers ace continues on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. in Frisco.
