Darvish, Kela Show Promise in Rehab Appearances

Help on the way for the Texas Rangers pitching staff.  Both starting pitcher Yu Darvish and reliever Keone Kela pitched Monday in minor league games as part of their rehabilitation work on their way back to the Major Leagues.

Darvish struck out five batters in two innings for Double-A Frisco, allowing two earned runs on 42 pitches.  The Rangers ace is trying to return to the Rangers after shoulder stiffness landed him on the disabled list.

In one inning of work for Triple-A Round Rock, Keone Kela was electric, striking out three of the four batters he faced.  Kela did allow a single in his appearance, but threw only 18 pitches in his only frame.

With the MLB All-Star break next week, the Rangers pitching staff could use the assistance.  Texas has three starting pitchers on the disabled list and has lost five of its last six games.  In their last three games, the Rangers have allowed their opponent to score double-digit runs twice.
