Choo Should Be the Next Shut Down

The Texas Rangers better hope that Shin-Soo Choo's long-term struggles this season have been a result of his ankle injury that he's continued to play through, and not a decline in talent after he signed a seven-year, $130 million deal this offseason to be the Rangers' leadoff man for the foreseeable future.

Choo is now hitting .236 on the season and is 0-for-17 dating back to before the all-star break. He turned in 0-for-4 performances in Friday's and Saturday's games before taking a seat on Sunday due to the notoriously bad turf in Toronto.

At this point, Choo might as well become the next Ranger to hit the disabled list and get his ankle right instead of continuing to play on an injured ankle. Sure, it's valiant and all, but what's the pay-off? Oh, there's not one. Choo does the Rangers no good by continuing to play, especially with how bad he's been playing.

Choo injured his ankle on April 21 in Oakland when he awkwardly stepped on first base trying to beat out an infield single. He was batting .310 at that point. Since then, he's hitting .215 withs seven homers and 26 RBIs in 72 games, so pretty much Michael Choice numbers.

Choo is obviously a better player than he's shown recently, so why not just get him right and not risk anything further?
