Brocail Likes What He Sees in Darvish Recovery

Yu Darvish has been seen as some sort of super human since joining the Rangers before the 2012 season. He's a physical freak and kind of has a Paul Bunyan vibe to him.

So it will be no surprise to see him bounce back from Tommy John surgery last March and bypass that usual year of pitching before you're back to normal type thing most pitchers take after the surgery. The Rangers expect Darvish to return to a big-league mound by mid-May at the earliest, which would be the same 14-month time frame Martin Perez returned from the same surgery last season.

But new Rangers pitching coach Doug Brocail said he's impressed with how Darvish has rehabbed so far and believes he's ahead of schedule.

"I wasn't expecting to see what I saw," Brocail told the Dallas Morning News of a throwing session he watched about six weeks ago.

Brocail came back from two Tommy John surgeries during his MLB career and believes Darvish will have a smooth return because of his easy, textbook mechanics and delivery.

"Yu might have some of the best mechanics in the game," Brocail said.
