AL West Watch: Angels Trade for Joyce

After trading away Howie Kendrick and his spot in the top part of the Los Angeles Angels' batting order, the Rangers AL West foes struck a deal on Tuesday by trading relief pitcher Kevin Jepsen to Tampa Bay for one of the league's most disciplined hitters in Matt Joyce.

Joyce is a guy who would've looked good in a Rangers uniform, but it doesn't appear the club really made any serious inquiries to acquire him.

He's a career .250 hitter but sports a career on-base percentage of .342 and has some pop with a .441 slugging percentage and 88 home runs in his career.

Angels GM Jerry Dipoto told the LA Times that Joyce could possibly be the Angels' No. 2 hitter in the lineup while serving primarily as a designated hitter but could also serve as a capable corner outfielder if Josh Hamilton or Kole Calhoun were to miss any time.
