When the Marlins' Josh Cousins came barrelling around third base for a now infamous home plate collision, the Giants lost one of the best bats (top 2) in their fairly pedestrian lineup when Posey broke his leg and suffered ligament damage to his ankle.
Since then, the Giants have run out a combo of Eli Whiteside and Chris Stewart behind the plate and they just simply aren't producing at the plate, not even by a run of the mill National League catcher's standards.
Just a couple of days ago we laid out a few options for the Giants to consider at catcher and one of the names that came up was the Texas Rangers' Taylor Teagarden. Teagarden was a star at the University of Texas, winning a College World Series, before being drafted by Texas.
Teagarden has never done much of anything at the big league level, hitting .216 in just over 100 big league games, but he's been raking pretty well in the minors this year at a .326 clip with nine homers in 24 games at Triple-A Round Rock.
With Mike Napoli on the disabled list with an oblique strain, the Rangers won't be a huge hurry to move Teagarden as he's the backup now for Yorvit Torrealba, but when Napoli returns the Rangers could easily part ways with Teagarden, and we know the Giants could use the help.
It wouldn't be the first time the teams have dealt catchers as the Rangers acquired Bengie Molina from San Francisco mid-season last year to make room for Posey in the Giants' lineup.
