The new "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie is big on historical accuracy... at least when it comes to breasts.
Here's part of the casting call circulated last week for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides:" "beautiful female fit models. Must be 5 ft 7 in. - 5 ft 8 in., size 4 or 6, no bigger or smaller. Age 18-25. Must have a lean dancer body. Must have real breasts. Do not submit if you have implants."
The actresses also must be able to dive, swim and, possibly, swashbuckle.
The Times of London reported that because the movie is a period piece, its creators want everything to fit the times, even if that means fitting actresses into oxygen depriving bodices. The Times, citing sources familiar with cleavage on film, reported that this was the first time such an edict was passed down for a "Pirates" movie.
"In the last movie there were enhanced breasts to give that 18th-century whoreish look and men were pretty well padded, too, and no one worried," a former casting agent told the Times. "But times are changing and the audience can spot false breasts."
There will be a "show and tell" with costume designers.
"Pirates" actress Kiera Knightley explained to the Times the breast-case scenario for the not-so-well endowed.
"It took about 45 minutes every day for make-up artists to add shade and volume and it looked fantastic until it got too hot shooting," Knightley told the Times. "Then the make-up would start smearing and the lines running away."
A casting agent told the Hollywood Insider that similar period piece casting call requirements sometimes apply to tattoos and hair highlights. As for male actors, Men's Health cover model abs might be considered unfit for a period piece.
The movie, starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, is scheduled for release in May 2011.
