New “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” Trailer Unquestionably a Guy Ritchie Joint

Most directors have their little visual tics, telltale techniques or images they use again and again. J.J. Abrams loves him a lens flare, Terrence Malick would be hard pressed to make a film without a shot of grass waving in the wind--ideally with a hand skimming along the top. Guy Ritchie? The man can't stop slowing down and speeding up the action. The new trailer for "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" will drive this home to even the most vacant film fan.

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" sees Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law returning as Holmes and Watson, as the crime fighters face off against the dreaded Dr. Moriarty, played by Jared Harris. Also back for more are Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, and joining the fun are Stephen Fry as Holmes' brother, Mycroft, and Noomi Rapace (the original "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") as someone named Sim.

The first "Sherlock Holmes" was an entertaining enough film, if not exactly groundbreaking, and this sequel looks to be more of the same—whether that's a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. But it's gotta be better than a remake of "Cannonball Run."

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" opens Dec. 16.
