Martin Campbell Inexplicably in Talks to Helm Totally Unnecessary “Fall Guy” Movie

Is there really nostalgia for "The Fall Guy"?

Martin Campbell, who's probably still trying to forget that he directed "Green Lantern," is in negotiations to helm a big-screen adaptation of "The Fall Guy," reported Deadline. For those of you under 35, the show was as '80 action-drama starring Lee Majors as a Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter.

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, the duo who penned both "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class," are working on the script for the new film--why is anyone's guess.DreamWorks originally announced their intention to adapt the film, but that was more than a year ago, and it's not clear they're still involved.

"The Fall Guy" was a dopey show that's main draw was the fact that it starred The Six-Million Dollar Man, and its legacy is that in launched the careers of both Heather Thomas and Markie Post. It was typical lowbrow, derivative nonsense, the likes of which dominated the airwaves at the time--if you think TV is a wasteland now, you are suffering from severe cultural amnesia.

Just five years ago, Campbell directed an absolutely ripping Bond film, "Casino Royale," (yes, we agree, the romantic interlude at the end of the second act was brutal). Two years ago he delivered an meh "Edge of Darkness." And earlier this year he was behind arguably the worst superhero franchise launch of the post-"X-Men" era, "Green Lantern," a film as boring as it was unintelligible. We fail to see how "The Fall Guy" is gonna get this man back on track.
