A Short List of Actors with Fewer Oscar Nominations than Jonah Hill

Let's be clear about one thing: we're huge Jonah Hill fans. We've had our eye on him since he first held up those goldfish bowl platform shoes in "40 Year Old Virgin"--and we're thrilled by the success he's enjoyed since then, as he's continued to write and act, stretching himself into darker, more dramatic roles as in "Cyrus."

And we loved him as the number-crunching Sancho Panza to Brad Pitt's heroic Don Quixote in "Moneyball," for which he was rewarded with an Oscar nomination. But we can't shake the feeling that his nomination highlights just how silly and capricious the whole awards circuit can be.

There were a number of veteran actors who did some amazing supporting work in 2011: Andy Serkis ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes"), John C. Reilly ("We Need to Talk About Kevin"), Michael Fassbender ("X-Men: First Class," "Jane Eyre"), Ryan Gosling ("Crazy Stupid Love"), Tom Hollander ("Hanna"), Albert Brooks ("Drive"), Colin Firth ("Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy"), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult)...

But even more jarring is the list of Hollywood greats who now have combined for fewer career Oscar nominations than Jonah Hill:
