Last Friday, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo became the highest-paid player in the history of the franchise when the team gave him a six-year, $108 million extension, an impressive $55 million of which is guaranteed.
Romo also became just the 15th $100 million man in NFL history. Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco became the 14th earlier this offseason when the Super Bowl Champion Ravens awarded him a landmark six-year, $120.6 million deal in the wake of their victory over the 49ers.
The deal was good for the Cowboys as well, of course. For one, they locked up a franchise quarterback that they remain pretty high on and, for another, the extension freed up around $5 million in cap space--which was much needed considering that the team went into the offseason less than $200,000 under the cap.
