The Dallas Cowboys were finally eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday night, which should free the team up to finally send injured franchise quarterback Tony Romo to injured reserve, officially ending his season.

Romo suffered a fractured clavicle against the Eagles in Week 2, then returned and re-broke it against the Panthers on Thanksgiving Day. But the Cowboys kept him on the roster in hopes that, on the off chance they stumbled into the playoffs out of a bad NFC East, they’d have their quarterback.

We’ll see what our need is there,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “If we see an opportunity to improve the roster that’ll be more of a possibility tomorrow than it was today.”

All told, Romo only appeared in four games this season, but three of the Cowboys’ four wins came with him at the helm.
