Will Anthony Spencer Be Back Next Year? “I Hope So”

Spencer is set to become a free agent at season's end

Anthony Spencer is set to become a free agent, but he’s spent the 2012 season making a pretty good case for the Cowboys to bring him back in 2013. Spencer had 1.5 sacks in the win over the Steelers, putting him at 10 on the season--a career high--and remains one of the better outside linebackers in the league in coverage.

So yeah, we’re hoping Spencer’s back next season; according to Spencer, so is he.

I hope so,” Spencer said this week, per ESPN Dallas. “We’ll see. I don’t control that stuff, guys.”

If Spencer does return, Dallas would most likely have a pretty stout defense in 2013--when the team gets starting safety Barry Church and starting inside linebackers Sean Lee and Bruce Carter--both of whom looked like absolute studs before their seasons were cut short--back from season-ending injuries. This fact isn’t lost on Spencer.

“If we can have that throughout the year next year,” Spencer said, “I believe we can be one of the best defenses.”
