Wilcox Takes Blame for Davis TD

Vernon Davis had a pair of touchdowns on Sunday

Second-year safety J.J. Wilcox took ownership of Vernon Davis’s easy touchdown grab on Sunday afternoon.

It’s a learning experience for me,”  Wilcox said, per ESPN Dallas. “If I have to take responsibility for it, I will.”

Wilcox, who was making just his sixth career start, failed to catch up to Davis on his 29-yard catch-and-run. Davis finished with four catches, 44 yards and a pair of touchdowns  in the 49ers’ 28-17 win.

“[Kaepernick] scrambled out and it’s a cluster call,” Wilcox said. “When you cluster, you have to get the man nearest to you, and I went down to the flat instead of going [with Davis]. You know, it’s nobody’s fault, but it’s something that I can work on and maybe notice that when he scrambles, instead of coming up, go deep. It’s something I can work on. It’s a learning experience for me.”
