Ware: “I've Gotta Have My Running Shoes On” Against Vick

Perhaps the most exciting individual match-up in Sunday night’s NFC East showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles will be Cowboys’ outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware versus Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick. Ware is liable to come off the edge for a devastating sack on an given play; Vick is a threat to go all the way on every play.

And Ware knows this.

"You've got to have some spy guys on him in some type of way," Ware said recently, per the Dallas Morning News. "He's not a statue that is going to sit back there. I've got to have my running shoes on. I can catch him and take him down, but if he gets a couple of steps in front of me, no one is going to catch him.”

Ware’s only career interception came against Vick back when Vick was a member of the Falcons, and he returned it 41 yards for his only career touchdown. But Ware doesn’t have any images of touchdown runs dancing in his head going into the Philly game--he just wants to limit Vick as best as he can.

"He's probably one of the fastest, most athletic guys on the field and you've got to find some way to stop him,” he said. “Corral the rabbit. He can run, man. He strings plays out and keeps their offense going."
