Tony Romo Won't Need Surgery on Broken Collarbone: NFL Network

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo won't need to have surgery on his broken collarbone, according to the NFL Network.

NFL Network tweeted the news Monday afternoon, but added that the good news doesn't change the 35-year-old quarterback's timetable for a return under center.

During a news conference Monday afternoon, head coach Jason Garrett said tests revealed no ligament damage, but Romo, who broke the same bone in 2010, is still expected to be out at least eight weeks, meaning he'll miss at least seven games.

During his recovery, the Cowboys will face the Falcons, Saints, Patriots, Giants, Seahawks, Eagles and Buccaneers.

The Cowboys have a bye week Oct. 18.

With Romo out, backup quarterback Brandon Weeden is expected to start.

The Cowboys only kept two quarterbacks on their active roster -- so the team is expected to announce Weeden's back up sometime this week.

Dallas next faces Atlanta (2-0), who will likely head to AT&T Stadium in Arlington without running back Tevin Coleman after he suffered a fractured rib in Sunday's win at the Giants.
