The Picks: Cowboys at Ravens

It's not enough to say you're an enormous football fan and then just watch the games or play Fantasy Football every week. You've got to put a little skin in the game, dear readers, and make picks in public that open you up to being ridiculed if things don't go your way. Don't think about the downside, though. Think about the benefits you shall receive when your pigskin prognostications become the stuff of legend! Or just do it because all these other guys are doing it and you've got just as much chance of being right as they do.

Peter King (SI.com) - Ravens 27, Cowboys 23. King's lacking faith in the Tony Romo-Dez Bryant connection or he would otherwise pick the Cowboys to snap the Ravens' 13-game home winning streak.

ESPN - Chris Mortensen and Seth Wickersham both like the Cowboys while the other 12 pickers are opting for the Ravens.

Mike Florio and Michael David Smith, Pro Football Talk - Ravens 28, Cowboys 17 (Florio). Ravens 24, Cowboys 17 (MDS)

Yahoo! Sports - It's a clean sweep for the Ravens.

Pete Prisco, CBSSports.com - Ravens 27, Cowboys 26. Prisco likes the Cowboys to keep it close before faltering late which is such a 2011 way of looking at things. It might not be wrong, though.

The rest of CBSSports.com - Ryan Wilson is the only one of the eight other pickers from 60 Minutes land who thinks the Cowboys will be bringing home a victory.

My Four-Year Old Son - "I think the Cowboys." Why? "They are very strong and the Ravens aren't so strong."

Me - It's tempting to swim against the tides here by pointing out that the Chiefs defense stoned the Ravens last weekend with a defense that isn't quite as good as the one the Cowboys feature. That was a road game, though, and the Chiefs can run the ball enough to control the pace of the game. I'm not convinced the Cowboys can do that and think the Ravens defense will make at least one play that swings the game in their favor. Ravens 23, Cowboys 17.
