Sunday's Game Now Officially Meaningless

Any significance to be attached to next Sunday’s regular season finale between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles flew out the window last night, the result of the Minnesota Vikings’ vaguely surprising 24-14 victory over the Birds in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Had Philadelphia won that game, they could clinch a first round bye in the playoffs with a win over the Cowboys Sunday. Instead, it’s more likely that the Eagles will more or less pull on the reins a bit, in preparation of the first round of the playoffs.

This idea seems all the more likely since the Eagles will have only two days of practice before meeting the Cowboys in Philadelphia, after having their game with Minny, originally scheduled for last Sunday night, to Tuesday.

Michael Vick suffered a bruised quadriceps in Tuesday’s game and is now listed as questionable for Sunday, meaning that there would be little reason for the team to trot him out in a meaningless game against Dallas.
