Stephen Jones: Melton Betting on Himself

Henry Melton's contract with Dallas is loaded with incentives and bonuses

The Dallas Cowboys’ newest defensive tackle, Henry Melton, has already made an impression on his new team.

Melton’s contract with the team is loaded with performance bonuses and playing time bonuses, so that he could make as little as $1.25 million or as much as $5 million next season. Executive vice president Stephen Jones sees the former Bear’s willingness to agree to such a deal as a sign of confidence.

“That was part of it,” Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. “When we were looking at the deal that was part of why we were leaning his way even more. He is dead set on betting on himself. He knows even before the injury he wasn’t playing his best football. I think he knows Rod (Marinelli) is a good influence on him and he responds well to Rod and he thinks this is a great place to get back on track.”
