Stephen Jones Confirms Cowboys Met with Manziel

Dallas met with Johnny Manziel at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the Dallas Cowboys did meet with Johnny Manziel at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, but don’t take that as a sign that Dallas would nab him if he were to fall to the 16th pick. Jones told 105.3-FM “The Fan” this week that the meeting, one of the 30 they were afforded at the Combine, was just an example of the Cowboys doing their due diligence.

“You certainly have to look at him in terms of if he were to fall, where he would stack up with the other options,” Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. “It’s in no way saying that we’re going to interview him because if he falls we’re going to take him. We just have to know that if something were to happen, obviously he can be a polarizing character, so you have to be prepared.”

Polarizing, yes. But Jones came away from Manziel’s Combine workout singing the 2012 Heisman winner’s praises. He went so far as to call him the “whole package” and predicting that he would be a star in the NFL.
