Spencer Says He Feels Like a Rookie Again

Anthony Spencer signed a one-year deal with Dallas on Saturday

On his third one-year contract in as many years after agreeing to return to Dallas on Saturday, Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer says he’ll miss OTAs as he continues to rehab his knee following microfracture surgery last year, but could return for training camp in July.

I’m not really thinking about a day,” Spencer said, per ESPN Dallas. “I’m taking it day by day and hopefully I’ll be back for training camp. I know it’s not going to be the [organized team activities] but camp is what I’m shooting for.”

Dallas had high hopes for Spencer as he transitioned from a 3-4 outside linebacker to a 4-3 defensive end last year--he was coming off a 12-sack season in 2012, after all--but he appeared in just one game in 2013 before being shut down for the year.

“I feel like I’m a rookie again with something to prove,” Spencer said. “I’m just trying to get stronger and hopefully be better than I was. That’s the goal.”
